35mm Camera Adapters
and Accessories
Traditionally, because of the lack of
standardization, attaching a 35mm camera
to a telescope has meant resorting to the
T-interface, which has an outer diameter
of 42mm and an inner diameter dependent
on the manufacturer's choice of tube thickness.
However, many amateurs have
found that this is the bottleneck in the
light path to their camera which causes
vignetting in the resulting images.
The Borg solution is to provide camera
interfaces which utilize a 49.8mm (0.75mm
pitch) outer diameter interface on the
telescope side. This means that the
smallest opening in the light path is
typically the camera's bayonet mount,
which is closest to the film plane, thus
minimizing vignetting. Of course, to make
full use of the Borg interface, you
should be sure that your scope is capable
of producing an image circle which can
cover the 43.3 mm diagonal span of the
35mm frame.

Borg
adapters provide a number of ways of
connecting to both Borg and third-party
telescopes. However, one of the most
common interfaces is the 2" accessory
interface, so this is the interface shown
in the examples which follow.

Camera-to-2" Interface with 0.85x Focal Reducer
These photos show the Borg parts
required to interface a camera to a 2"
accessory port, including the Borg 0.85x
focal reducer which is effective for
scopes with focal lengths between 500mm
and 800mm. The upper photo shows
